3U subsidiary InnoHubs GmbH builds innovative centre for dialogue between business and science

  • Ground-breaking ceremony on Skyline Hill in the immediate vicinity of the university campus
  • weclapp SE plans research location
  • 95 % of the space already sold or rented to interested parties with a preliminary contract

Marburg, 5 August 2021 – InnoHubs GmbH, a subsidiary of 3U HOLDING AG (ISIN DE0005167902), has heralded the start of construction for a forward-looking project with a ceremonial “ground-breaking”. In the immediate vicinity of the North Campus of the Julius Maximilian University and not far from the buildings of the Würzburg-Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences, the “InnoHubs” will be home to industrial and service companies seeking direct exchange between business and science on topics such as digitalisation and artificial intelligence. Among them, as another 3U subsidiary, is weclapp SE, whose CEO Ertan Özdil was one of the initial supporters of this project.

weclapp, the multi-award-winning cloud-based platform for enterprise software of the same name, is already being enriched with applications that use machine learning algorithms, among other things, to give small and medium-sized enterprises a competitive edge. These projects will be further accelerated and expanded in the future in an even closer exchange with the main research areas in Würzburg. In implementation of its strategic growth course, weclapp SE plans to establish a research location for innovative software development in the InnoHubs.

In the immediate vicinity, the University of Würzburg is currently building a centre for artificial intelligence (“Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Data Science – CAIDAS”) and will become the central Bavarian research location for AI. Around 50 additional high-tech professorships will be created in Würzburg by 2023.

“The proximity to university research will enrich our plans and bring us another step closer to our goal of becoming the preferred ERP solution for small and medium-sized enterprises worldwide,” explains Ertan Özdil. “We know from initial discussions that our practical approach is also welcome at the university and is met with interest by teachers and students. Therefore, we are looking forward to being able to establish another location here at InnoHubs.”

InnoHubs is currently one of the largest construction projects around. The building, which is to be constructed according to high sustainability standards, has a floor space of around 14,500 m² and offers open, self-designable innovation areas for the establishment of companies and branches as well as areas for conventional use. Already 95 percent of the space has been sold or rented through preliminary contracts. Around 800 jobs can be created in the InnoHubs.

“Two years ago, 3U HOLDING AG established InnoHubs GmbH together with WüWi Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH of Dr. Nina Winkelmann and Prof. Dr. Axel Winkelmann to develop this innovative building project”, explains Michael Schmidt, Speaker of the Management Board of 3U HOLDING AG. “The great demand for space in this ideal location for the exchange between business and science shows that we have once again identified a megatrend in time and have been able to take advantage of it. Through initiatives like this, we are advancing our strategic focus on cloud computing, and we are increasing 3U’s enterprise value in the interest of shareholders, employees and all stakeholders.”
